Political Research Associates (PRA) is a national nonprofit devoted to supporting movements that are building a more just and inclusive democratic society. We provide research, strategy, and briefings to expose movements, institutions, and ideologies that undermine human rights. PRA publishes The Public Eye magazine quarterly. The PRA staff union is a unit of the Washington-Baltimore News Guild, Local 32035 of C.W.A. Our office is located in Somerville, Massachusetts.

Who You Are: Development Coordinator

You are a talented nonprofit professional and/or a skilled organizer motivated to join a team charged with organizing donors and meeting ambitious fundraising goals. Driven and committed to social justice, you understand that moving resources is a vital part of building movements and have creative ideas about how to inspire donors to support research analysis to inform grassroots organizing strategy. You are a skilled writer, detail- and goal-oriented, think creatively, are excited to grow and learn, and thrive on building supportive relationships across diverse communities.


The Development Coordinator will join a growing fundraising team, with particular emphasis on digital donor organizing, including writing and coordinating donor communications, executing donor management systems, prospect research, and supporting the development of the overall fundraising strategy to allow us to meet rising demand for our work and focus on long-term sustainability. Working most closely with the Development Director and Donor Program Manager, this position will be a vital member of a growing team. This position is based in the Greater Boston area and requires some travel and occasional evening or weekend commitments.

  • Development Strategy: Support and track PRA’s development vision, working alongside the Development Director and Donor Program Manager to meet fundraising goals;
  • Development Communications: In coordination with the Development Director, Donor Program Manager and Communications team, execute a year-round schedule of digital and print solicitations, fundraising campaigns, donor appreciation and gift acknowledgement. Assignments include writing, proofreading, proposing creative projects, preparing target/distribution lists, and mailings;
  • Donor Stewardship: Research, solicit, and steward prospective and new individual donors via phone, video, email, and social media engagement. 
  • Data Management: Support and ensure accuracy of data management systems, including PRA’s web-based CRM database, donor/prospect portfolio system, gift processing, and lead tracking. Assignments include data entry, running reports, helping establish and maintain workflows, providing peer-to-peer training, and filing and other administrative tasks;
  • Events: Promote and assist with logistics for all events and other special programming;
  • Assist with other projects as requested and mutually agreed upon.


Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Commitment to the vision and mission of PRA. 
  • Demonstrated success in fundraising as part of a team. 
  • Familiarity with and passion for social justice movements and social justice-minded audiences.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills. 
  • Critical and creative thinking.
  • Experience with or willingness to learn job-required software applications and data management systems, including web-based CRM database 
  • Demonstrated organization skills and commitment to meeting deadlines.
  • Strong verbal communication and engagement skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to support and contribute to all areas of the organization’s development program.
  • Willingness to learn new skills through training and mentorship.


Compensation package includes generous paid time off for vacation, health, and flexible holidays, as well as 100% employer-paid medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance. This is a full-time salaried position ($40,000-$55,000) based in Somerville, Massachusetts. As of September 2021, the Development Coordinator will be required to work approximately 1-2 days per week in PRA’s Somerville office in order to fulfill core duties and responsibilities of the role. This requirement is subject to change based on public health guidance and office protocols. This position is not eligible for exclusive remote work. 

Note regarding COVID-19 office access: PRA has implemented a variety of pandemic precautions and measures to prioritize staff safety and public health. The Somerville office closed in March 2020 and we plan to continue to limit access through December 2021.
